The Shape of Water, Call Me by Your Name, Dunkirk, Lady Bird, The Post, Feud: Bette and Joan, Fargo y Big Little Lies lideran las nominaciones.
Considerada por muchos como la aproximación más exacta de lo que serán los resultados de los premios Oscar, los Critics’ Choice Awards son una iniciativa de la Asociación de Críticos Norteamericanos, que reúne a más de 300 periodistas especializados, para destacar a los mejores exponentes del cine y la televisión en el último año.
La cinta The Shape of Water, dirigida por el mexicano Guillermo del Toro, es la más opcionada en la edición 23 de los Critics’ Choice Awards con catorce nominaciones, entre las que destacan la de Mejor Película, Mejor Director y Mejor Actriz (Sally Hawkins). Junto a esta película competirán por ser la mejor del año The Big Sick, Call Me by Your Name, Darkest Hour, Dunkirk, The Florida Project, Get Out, Lady Bird, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri y The Post, esta última la más reciente producción de Steven Spielberg.
Como Mejor Actor la disputa estará entre Timothée Chalamet (Call Me by Your Name), James Franco (The Disaster Artist), Jake Gyllenhaal (Stronger), Tom Hanks (The Post), Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out), Daniel Day-Lewis (Phantom Thread) y Gary Oldman (Darkest Hour). Las actrices que buscarán subir al escenario serán Jessica Chastain (Molly’s Game), Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water), Frances McDormand (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), Margot Robbie (I, Tonya), Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird) y Meryl Streep (The Post).
En Televisión, la miniserie Feud: Bette and Joan consiguió seis nominaciones, incluyendo la categoría Mejor Miniserie, en la que compite junto a American Vandal, Big Little Lies, Fargo, Godless y The Long Road Home. Como Mejor Serie Dramática postulan American Gods, The Crown, Game of Thrones, The Hanmaid’s Tale, Stranger Things y This is Us. Por su parte, The Big Bang Theory, Black-ish, Glow, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Modern Family y Patriot aspiran a Mejor Serie de Comedia.
El actor de origen pakistaní, Kumail Nanjiani participa por un trofeo como Mejor Actor de Comedia tanto en cine como en televisión, gracias a sus papeles en The Big Sick y Silicon Valley, respectivamente.
